Susan is a passionate, ecologically focused, and experienced master garden designer. Since childhood she’s played, healed and created in gardens. Early years were spent playing in nature, her creative and beloved play spaces. An early exposure to Rachel Carson’s environmental alarm book ‘Silent Spring’ seeded her passion in environmental rupture, care, and stewardship.
She received her Master’s in Landscape Studies while operating her solopreneur landscape design firm. As a volunteer and community leader, she helped with Pittsburgh’s botanical community growth including as chairperson of Pittsburgh’s Great Gardens Competition (joint venture of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper and Pittsburgh Botanical Gardens) for 4 years.
